Misunderstanding On Sony PSP Battery

Sony PSP Battery

Misunderstanding 1: PSP needs to charge and discharge repeated three times in order to activate the battery.

We do not need to do so unless PSP you buy is the inventory of products more than one year.Because the battery had already been activated in the factory, while the batteries packages into the PSP battery has through the equivalent of activation test once again. So the battey you get in hand has been active ever, and do more three charge-discharge process is an increase unnecessary depletion of battery.

Misunderstanding 2: The first charge must be sufficient enough for 12 hours.

This is applicable for the Ni-MH battery device which do not have the battery control circuit, but it is a joke for now PSP battery which has a smart charge and discharge control module. The charge current will be automatically cut off when the PSP battery is full charged and shows as “external power supply” in system. Even if you continue to charge 120 hours, the state would not be any changes. General speaking, three hours is completely filled, the remaining charge is just a waste of time. Instead, you should get a rechargeable power shine first when you get new machine.

Misunderstanding 3: The battery needs charge –discharge completely once a month.

For the Ni-MH battery that has stong memory effect, this is an essential task, but for lithium batteries, the cycle is too frequent, and lithium batteries to eliminate memory effect in theory, even if yes, it has significantly weakened negligible. If you use the battery very frequently, you should discharge the battery to relatively low (about 10~15%) then re- charging. If the discharge that the machines even can not reach 0 ~ 1%, that is a large depth of injury discharge for the lithium battery. In general, once every 2 months
to do this operation on it is OK. If you rarely use the battery, as long as every 3 months to do such operation on it.

Misunderstanding four: The PSP is working while charging, or it will damage the host and battery if continue to use an external power supply after charged.

This is the most ridiculous argument. How much the so-called cavity electronics, such as mechanism of charge-level of theoretical argument can react in practice? Battery Industry academia think about this first of all is not uniform. There are still a disagreement in theory, how to guide consumers to use ?

Depletion of the battery is divided into the normal wear and tear and damage of wear and tear, and while external power supply while charging the degree of damage caused by the use of genuine fully within the scope of normal wear and tear on the battery, that is, no matter how systematic theory of maintenance measures, the battery is will be aging, it is like how the magic of cosmetics and beauty care could not stop turned into an old woman, at best just delay, but the window dressing of the effectiveness of how to play the real number, it is definitely not the theory can not be explained – respect for the practical experience and scientific understanding is the correct view.

Some may say that the only way to avoid the aging batteries is do not use (so many people would choose to take the battery), but this one to make PSP portable lose its meaning, and secondly, the battery, even in sealed condition, but also over time the extension of the natural aging. The battery is actually a semi-consumables, as long as the battery enough to bring you the convenience and joy, I think their sacrifice is worthwhile.

The battery maintenance and use point of view has been generally recognized are as follows:

1. Should be avoided completely discharge (while the screen become black).

2. It will not cause additional wear and tear to Li-ion battery while charging is not exhausted or discharge frequently, when charging or use an external power supply, charging while in the use, or continue to use the external power supply after charging.

3. If you do not use lithium batteries a long time, it should be removed, and placed in a cool dry place. Far away from freezing and aviod the erosion of water vapor. Avoid using it in a car which is on the high temperature. Charge the battery to 40% if you want to place it a long time.

4. As  PSP is concerned, it will not cause additional damage while has installed the battery and use an external power supply. And out of portability and protection of the battery cover, we do not recommend use an external power supply and remove the battery frequently.

5. To avoid purchasing spare lithium batteries for storage, because the life of battery is also a natural impairment even if never use it, and maximize the use of batteries in the limited battery life time is the value expression, rather than using all kinds of impractical theory to torture ourselves and the Sony PSP which for entertainment.

  1. Thanks for sharing! it is good to encourage people to comment, not just reading. The only reason I writing blog rather than diary is because of the feedback.  (Quote)  (Reply)

  2. my psp battery loses charge whilst the psp is off. possibly the psp is running whilst completely turned off?  (Quote)  (Reply)

  3. Priceless content and brilliant insight. Many thanks for your blog.  (Quote)  (Reply)
