R4 loading Troubleshooting

Please check what version of your own R4. There are a great many versions of R4 clones，such as：R4III, R4 SDHC, R4 Advance，R4 Pro etc.

You can identify the right version by its logo outside the package, and on the box there is the official website address, please go there and download the latest kernel.

 Once you downloaded the kernel, please unzip the files to a folder, something like follows will be listed:

_system_ (this is a folder full of files)
moonshl (this is a folder full of files)
_DS_MENU.dat (this is the system menu data file)
_DS_MSHL.nds (this is the moonshell/multi media player loader)

After that, please copy them   into your own SD card or SDHC card.

Now put the memory card into your R4 card and start the ds up or power it on if you have done it right the R4 should boot up and show you a menu with 3 icons GAME / MULTIMEDIA / SLOT 2 choose game and then press a on the folder called GAMES choose your game you wish to play and press A on the ds to load it. 

If you did as the above, but the cart still not working, please check:

is the mem card formatted FAT or FAT 32 not that it would make a great difference its worth a try …

and have you tried using normal Micro SD none sdhc card or can you borrow one? to eliminate a bad sd card 

finally have you tried other versions of the R4 loader such as the official one: the original 1.18 kernel, or more kernels of other flashcarts.

 

Note: Original R4 DS is only for 2G SD card.  If you are certain that you have the correct firmware but still stuck on loading screen? First, format your SD Card, Second redownload the correct firmware.

Hello, I have followed all the directions and troubleshooting tips for the r4 but on mine i have formatted it to fat32 copied loads of different firmwares across and kept on trying but each time on the ds it keeps on coming up with a picture of a folder that says menu ? and i dont know what i am doing wrong please can you help me

  2. The direction is for you choosing the right kernel, also there are some problems. Here i have something added.
    1. Leave some space in your SD card(about 50MB), because some of cards generate a system file when first-time booting.
    2. Poor contact. Please check if plug-in TF card successfully, or re-plug TF card. Sometime need clean up the copper pin of flash cart.
    3. Too many disk defragments in SD card or bad system flies occur. Format the SD card.
    4. Make sure that the kernel is compatible with the flashcart. For example, here is a English verion R4, so please download the English version kernel not French or Chinese one.  (Quote)  (Reply)

  3. DSTT menu
    If it looks like this, andyour R4 clone is actually a DSTT clone, with the R4 name on it. You may go to DSTT forum and search for the firmware with the fake killer removed and install that, your card should be up and running then.  (Quote)  (Reply)

    I have a cd of the r4 and i copied the stuff like the one above, but when I put it in the ds, it loaded and it all went blank… I borrowed my cousin’s sd card and copied evrything in it to mine, but it still won’t work.:(

  12. Please check the following possible existed problems:
    1: Does your r4 card insert right or wrong? in suitable condtion?
    2: Did you already download the right kernel?
    3: Does the kernel edition match with the r4 edition?
    You probably need newer firmware. If that doesn’t work, try getting another rom but the same game. If that doesn’t work that rom might be fake.  (Quote)  (Reply)

  14. You can try to update your firmware,
    or maybe the micro sd has problems, you may borrow your friends’ R4 and try it on to your DS to see if it freezes.  (Quote)  (Reply)

  15. I have an R4 cartridge I just got that came in a little blue box that said Happybox on it. It says R4sdhc on the front of the card. No matter what firmware I put on it I still get the default loading screen for the DS. Nothing changes. It just says no game pack inserted. Any ideas? I appreciate it.  (Quote)  (Reply)

  16. Mine works great but I didn’t play it for a few weeks and when I loaded it back up all the files were corrupted and the saves could not be transfered back when I reloaded the kernel. any thoughts?  (Quote)  (Reply)

  18. I got my r4 last year, its been working perfectly til sat. night when i downloaded a new game and i turned it on to play the ds and the red file folder with menu ? came up. This i recognised from when i first bought the r4 so I reformatted it, downloaded new kernal and put it on the r4 and it still doesn’t work.
